“Buried in a decent Christian burial…worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God… Will and ordain that my son George Zimmerman shall have all the land and plantation….he shall pay to each of his three sisters twenty silver dollars … Mary Margaret, Hannah, Mary Dorothy…. George shall maintain his mother during her life… so that she does not suffer for want… she is to live on my plantation….
Witnessed and signed by John Boon and George Shoemaker
I do not know a birth or death date for George, writer of the Will, but based on his son George’s birthdate, he would be born prior to 1760, prior to the Revolutionary war. The Zimmerman family likely fled Baden-Württemberg Germany to escape constant wars and religious persecution. The Will’s author, George, May have been born in Germany prior to settling in North Carolina.
His son and grandson attended Friedens Lutheran Church in Gibsonville NC and are buried there. The church was established in 1745 and George is likely also buried there but there is no record of his tombstone.
