    Description

    1 folio pg manuscript document, approx. 8" x 13", dated at Berlin, Hartford Co., Connecticut, March 7, 1843, in which Grace Elton, a "Revolutionary Pensioner", giving a power of attorney to James Elton to collect her pension in her name "from the Agent of the United States for paying pensions in Hartford, State of Connecticut".
    Signed by Grace Elton (1751-1845, wife of Bradley Elton, (1742-1830), she died in 1845 at age 94), and by two witnesses, William Daniels and Shubael Risley.
    Below that is a statement signed by Shubael Risley, Justice of the Peace, certifying that Grace Elton personally appeared before him, and "acknowledged the foregoing power of attorney to be her act and deed".
    At bottom is another statement signed by James Elton and by Shubael Risley, certifying that James Elton appeared before him, "and made oath that he has no interest whatever in the money he is authorized to receive by virtue of the foregoing power of attorney, either by any pledge, mortgage, sale, assignment, or transfer, and that he does not know or believe that the same has been so disposed of to any person whatever".
