CamelBak Chute Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle Review
One of the most well-known names in outdoors equipment,
    especially
in products like water bottles and hydration packs, CamelBak is a familiar name for anyone who loves to spend time outdoors. Offering quality bottles of nearly every description, CamelBak designs are clever and functional enough to also make for excellent every day use water bottles. Recently, a 40 ounce
    CamelBak Chute
came into our lives, and we are finding ourselves continually refreshed by it’s clever additions to the classic insulated water bottle.
Having gone through plenty of CamelBak bottles from all across the spectrum, we were pretty sure right away that the CamelBak Chute would, if nothing else, live up to the quality design and manufacturing we’ve come to expect from their brand. CamelBak offers their “Got Your Bak” guarantee, which guarantees free replacements in the event of any manufacturing defects over the lifetime of the product, so, at least if we got a lemon we had some recourse!
    Let’s take a closer look.
Reviewing the Novel Features of the CamelBak Chute
The CamelBak Chute features all of the good things you’ve come to expect from a quality insulated water bottle. Constructed from 18/8 food-grade stainless steel, BPA-free plastics, available in a selection of more than eight colors, it ticks all the boxes to make it a competitor among the top insulated bottle brands. But it’s where the CamelBak Chute departs from its competition that we’re more interested in.
Firstly, the bottle is taller than many other 40 ounce bottles, which gives it a slimmer footprint. It can even fit into some large cupholders. At the top of the bottle we have CamelBak’s snap spout cap, which does a great job of keeping the contents of the bottle thoroughly inside. Even inverted and shaken, tossed about in the bag or the back of our car, we’ve never managed to get a leak out of the Chute, and we’ve tried quite hard! Properly fastened, there is no reason to be concerned about the
    CamelBak Chute
    leaking.
The design of the spout makes it very easy to get a drink without any delay. Simply twist off the cap and set it in the conveniently-placed carrying handle which doubles as a storage solution for your cap while you take a drink. The spout has an angled design to get the water flowing rapidly to get you a drink when you need it. We’re not sure if this makes any real difference in the flow-rate of the water, as CamelBak’s advertising seems to claim, but it does make the bottle easier to drink from than many other large stainless steel bottles.
Testing the CamelBak Chute’s Insulation Quality
According to CamelBak, the Chute’s double-wall vacuum insulation is capable of keeping it’s contents cold for up to 24 hours or hot for up to 6. This sets the Chute apart from many other vacuum insulated bottles, which typically claim to keep liquids hot for up to 12 hours, which in our testing has very rarely been the case.
But we weren’t about to take their word for it! We performed our standard evaluation for insulated water bottles. Filling the
    CamelBak Chute
with ice, we left it standing on our kitchen counter in the tropics for a full 24 hours before opening it up. We were surprised to still find quite a bit of ice remaining in the bottle, so we sealed it up again and came back roughly 12 hours later. The ice had melted, but at 36 hours the water inside was still refreshingly cold.
In our heat test, the Chute exceeded its advertised capability. We put near-boiling water in, left it to sit on the counter, and six hours later found it still piping hot. It was then sealed again and opened once more three hours later, to find it having cooled to lukewarm. It’s important to note that , especially with hot liquids, opening the lid immediately releases quite a bit of heat and reduces the insulation time. In a longer duration test, we found that without opening the bottle, it kept water piping hot for up to 10 hours.
