This lovelyGala Huipil from Jalapa in Tuxtepec
Mexico it is embroidered in
Pink and Turquoise color
embroidery
thread
on
Creamy White 100% Cotton Manta
fabric.
This amazing garment was made
by Alejandrina Carrera Orozco (see photo # 5 of her and her
granddaughter).
The front and back are
entirely covered
with embroidered flowers and birds...
The width is 32
inches (64 inches around) 39 inches long will fit a Medium to 3XL size
woman.
This is one of the types of huipils worn by the
Flor Pina Dancers
who are always a favorite at the
Guelaguetza
dance festival. The
100% Cotton Manta dresses do not turn up as often as those done on Rayon
. Personally I prefer the Cotton Manta Huipils from Jalapa...
Please note that there are blue embroidery guide lines visible
on parts of this dress. this is common on this type of huipil, and in no way deters from the beauty of this garment.
In painting this is referred to a
pentimento
.
Where the artist has
changed or adjusted his or her original design...
This dress is a wonderful example of
contemporary fashion trends
such as; Fiesta, Frida Kahlo, Hippie, Boheimian, Cow Girl, Santa Fe, Peasant Style.... You will
love this Huipil from Jalapa Oaxaca Mexico.
Women here are
very skilled embroiderers
in this part of Oaxaca and their
traditional outfits are alive with birds and floral images. You will not be disappointed
in this blouse!!!
