A 1.25" button with the phrase ‘Go Ahead, Make My Day’ as spoken by the one and only Clint Eastwood in the role of ‘Dirty’ Harry Callahan, in the 1983 film Sudden Impact.
Harry Callahan is a police inspector famous for his unconventional and often brutal crime-fighting tactics. At his favorite diner, Callahan foils a robbery and kills three of the criminals. When the surviving robber takes a hostage, instead of backing off, Harry points his .44 Magnum revolver at the man's face and dares him to shoot, saying with clenched teeth, "Go ahead, make my day."
In 2005, it was chosen as No. 6 on the American Film Institute list AFI's 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes. "Stand-your-ground" statutes referring to a person's right to self-defense are sometimes referred to as "make my day" statutes. President Ronald Reagan used the "make my day" line in a March 1985 speech threatening to veto legislation raising taxes. When campaigning for office as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, in 1986, Eastwood distributed bumper stickers entitled "Go Ahead — Make Me Mayor".
