I can't say I know much about these items, but I can say I am sure they are about 70 years old. These items were purchased by a Korean War soldier while he was in Tokyo Japan in 1952 and sent home as gifts to his mother and father. The soldier was a lifelong farmer from northern Wisconsin. Everything you see in the photos - one price.I recently cleaned out my neighbor's attic - the house was built in 1898. My neighbor just passed away in November 2022 - he was 93 years old. He had lived his entire life in this house & had no surviving relatives. Most items in the attic were destroyed by mice. However, one chest was intact. This chest contained all of his Korean War stuff. From his photo album, I see that he had served in Korea. He was an MP (Military Police). These items were in the chest along with his military items.
From items in his scrapbook, appears he spent time in his military service at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Camp Polk, Louisiana, Fort Lawton, Seattle Washington. Then he was shipped over to Korea. Also spent some time in Tokyo and other places in Japan.
In his scrapbook, there are two letters he wrote home while overseas. Very interesting. Some excerpts: "Seoul (Korea) is sure a bombed out city - hardly anything left standing.." While in Tokyo: "Went to a German
café
one night and got feeling good. Went down the main street singing 'On Wisconsin' ". "The Jap girls are really something to write home about. They wait on you hand and foot. Lots of guys getting married." "Most of the things I sent home I bought on a place called the 'Ginza'. Its one big street where the Japanese have open stands. You Jew with them over the price. Hope you like the stuff."
Here is what you are bidding on:
1. Large silk-like "blanket". 76" x 88". Blanket has a number of brown rust-like stains in places and one area of degradation - maybe chewed by mice. Center decoration of tiger is excellent with no defects in this area. Also 2 matching pillow cases with tiger decorations. One pillowcase is excellent condition with no staining. Second pillowcase has brown staining in one quarter toward one corner.
2. Boxed set. Looks to be for child or small woman. Includes shirt, pants, robe and slippers.
Beautiful
decorating on shirt. Excellent condition overall - was never worn. Robe only has very small amount of slight brown staining. Outside of box is brown stained.
3. Fold-out decorated fan. Excellent condition with no staining or other defects.
4. Seven silk-like placemats. Never used. Very good condition.
Condition is very good considering this stuff has been in a locker in an attic for 70 years. The blanket has the worst of the condition issues. See photos please.
