    Description

This beautifull 2 panel hand woven brocade textile, which can be made into a huipil (blouse), or hung on the wall as a piece of art, comes from Totonicapan, Guatemala. Woven into the black panels are a beautiful series of geometric patterns in shades of purples, green, blues and white. The collar is yellow with machine stitched purple and blue flowers.
The size measures; width, across the shoulders 33 1/2”,length, 58”as tapestry, 27 ½” as huipil, neck opening, rectangular 7”x 8”circumference 30”.
These huipils are woven and worn by Mayan women living in the hill villages of Guatemala. Each village has its own particular design. pattern, color, and style.
It takes many hours for a woman to weave and embroider one huipil. They are made for family, neighbors, and if sold become an important source for extra income.
