    Description

    This is an original 1809 certificate for One share of the Centre Turnpike Road to John M. Hartley.  It is dated January second, 1809 and indicates that 20% has been paid at the time of issuance of No. 1221.  It is signed by Joseph Priestley, President and the Treasurer whose signature I cannot decipher.  On the back are the signed receipts for the balance of payments at   on June 10, 1809, November 13, 1809, May 20, 1910 and July 1, 1811 signed each time by John Cooper.  The certificate has bends and little tears at the edges and is unevenly clipped at the left side.  It is 8" by 5 & 1/2".
