This auction is for one (1) chip Both sides have old ship-wheel pattern. The evidence is clear, this style is of same exact type as used at the San German Social Club. Even matches in color shade and wear. The photos of the poker chip gambling rack (located a inside a locked wood and glass console, were taken by self under permission (with strict surveillance) from the SAN GERMAN HISTORY MUSEUM, which belongs to the CIRCULO DE RECREO DE SAN GERMAN, a non-profit social - cultural group founded in 1880 by Spanish and local merchants to hold their social events. Its open to public, go check for yourself!. This piece was recently acquired, from a major token dealer at a major Dallas Texas coin show. As I purchased a small but nice hoard of Spanish speaking Caribbean casino chip pieces, I was told these unnamed pieces were either from Puerto Rico or Caribbean casinos as well.
This chip is unlisted in 2014's Blacks catalog of PR casino chips.
This piece is possibly 75 to 100 years old it is estimated to have been used between 1910's and 1949's,
and has rounded edges, NOT flat edges
.
From the time US took over Puerto Rico until 1949 Gambling was Illegal, thus no Puerto Rico chips from this period bear denomination. Private clubs existed all through out, of course, and there are several who issued chips for clean, members only, private entertainment (meaning illegal gambling).  On 1949 Puerto Rico legalized gambling as an alternative source of income. Many private clubs, whose membership was expensive and thus often reserved only to the wealthy, initially issued new chips with denominations, but as the Island's opening to gambling, specially after Havana's casinos had to close due to Communism, had a huge surge in new hotels with casinos opening left and right, allowing anyone to participate, all private club gambling eventually ceased to exist. Similar but different pieces (with flat edges instead of round edges) are known to have been used at a gambling establishment in Saratoga New York, so
their's have flat edge, ours have rounded edges
