Richard J. Harer Early NASA Test Pilot X-1B Jet Aircraft Signed Photograph

Richard J. Harer [1924 1919] was a World War II bomber pilot, mechanical engineer and test pilot. Harer became a test pilot during the ''Right Stuff'' era, becoming a experimental test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base in 1953. Harer flew numerous test flights in the early days of testing and was highly involved in F-84F, X-10 and the X-1B aircraft. On December 22, 1954, he was serious injured in a crash which resulted in the loss of both of his legs. Hare was forced to retire from flying but continued in aviation research and was appointed Project Manager for the X-15 Program from the beginning to the end of the program. Listed for auction is a photograph signed by Richard J. Harer. The photograph is a great image of the X-1B at Dryden and the autograph is signed ''R.J. Harer USAF Test Pilot X-1B Flight 4 Nov 1954'' in black pen. The photograph is a b/w card-stock, measures 10.00 x 8.00 inches and is in fine condition
