SONNY CARTER JR. PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED to Tim Hauser The Manhattan Transfer. Condition is “used”.Sealed in plastic sleeve and mounted to the back of acrylic art piece with 10 3/4” x 13 1/4” print of Sonny in a spacewalk. The acrilyc piece measures 18” x 24” and is about 1/2” thick with a mount for hanging on the back. Condition is used with some wear and tear. The prints inside are like new.
Inscribed to Tim Hauser as a gift - one of The Manhattan Transfer songs was played to wake up the astronauts on this trip.
Manley Lanier "Sonny" Carter Jr., M.D., was an American chemist, physician, professional soccer player, naval officer and aviator, test pilot, and NASA astronaut who flew on STS-33.
Selected by NASA in May 1984, Carter became an astronaut in June 1985, qualified for assignment as a mission specialist on future Space Shuttle flight crews. Carter was assigned as Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Representative for the Mission Development Branch of the Astronaut Office when selected to the crew of STS-33. The STS-33 crew launched, at night, from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on November 22, 1989, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. The mission carried Department of Defense payloads and other secondary payloads. After 79 orbits of the earth, this five-day mission concluded on November 27, 1989 with a hard surface landing on Runway 04 at Edwards Air Force Base, California. With the completion of his first mission, Carter logged 120 hours in space.
Tim and Sonny played baseball together in the men’s Senior League of the Los Angeles Dodgers and attended Dodger’s Fantasy Camps together.
