    THE PRISONER
Number Six Penny-Farthing Bicycle and "Vote For No. 6" Button
This listing is for two 1.25" fanmade pinback buttons based on the series 'The Prisoner': one with the bicycle logo and number 6, and one with campaign artwork based on the episode 'Free For All.'
The Prisoner is a 17-episode British television series first broadcast in the United Kingdom from 29 September 1967 to 1 February 1968.  Starring and co-created by Patrick McGoohan, it combined spy fiction with elements of science fiction, allegory, and psychological drama.
The series follows a British former secret agent who is abducted and held prisoner in a mysterious coastal village resort where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. In the village everyone has numbers, not names, and the leader is called Number Two.
In the opening credits of the show, McGoohan's character is assigned the number 6, to which he declares, "I am not a number, I am a free man!"
Although sold as a thriller in the mould of the previous series starring McGoohan, Danger Man (1960) [retitled as "Secret Agent" in the US], the show's combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surreal setting had a far-reaching effect on science fiction/fantasy programming, and on popular culture in general.
Everyone in the Village wears a button with a penny-farthing bicycle and their number, and Number 6 of course has his own button.  The button is smaller than the one shown on the show, which makes it easier to wear discreetly.
In the episode "Free For All," Number 6 is urged by yet another new Number 2 to run for his office in the forthcoming elections. Number 6 is surprised to hear that the Village even has elections but after some consideration, agrees. His platform is a radical one, posing all of the questions that he would like to have answered: where are they, why are they there, who is Number 1.  Will the Village and the mysterious people behind it actually allow one of their loudest opponents to triumph?
The campaign button is designed to look like one of 6's posters: a B&W picture of his face (actually a publicity still of actor Patrick McGoohan) overlaid with the red text 'Vote For No.6.'
Wear these lovely buttons while applying for a new Social Security number, changing your PIN code, or doing a sudoku puzzle!  Might not be a good fashion choice to wear while actually voting, though.  Add some white trim to that dark jacket you never wear, plus these buttons, and presto!  You're Number Six this Halloween.  Hand them out as treats!
