    Description

    Here's a rare historic letter
signed by John Palmer, New York Secretary of State,
    and dated
    April 29.1898.
The letter was sent In response to a question about his upcoming speech, perhaps touching on the
    Civil War,
at the Lenox Lyceum. Palmer replied he had "
    no bitterness towards the South
    " notwithstanding he was the
    only survivor
of his father and three brothers in the
    Union Army
. Palmer did not mention in this letter, he also was severely injured in the Civil War. New York government might have benefitted from Palmer's beautiful, flowing penmanship on display here. This is truly
    an historic New York collectible
. But the signed letter is also of interest to collectors of
    Civil War Veterans memorabilia,
because Palmer describes his loss of his family who served in the Union Army. It is notable he mentions " the South." The left side bottom of the letter is marked in green pencil, "duly published Wednesday May 1" so this copy must have been printed in a newspaper on that date. Also of interest to collectors of old newspaper publishing. This letter will be carefully packed and sent with tracking.
