    TAXI DRIVER

We Are the People” 2.25” Repro Movie-Inspired Political Button
One large 2 1/4 inch pinback button with a slogan based on the film “Taxi Driver”: We Are the People.
Taxi Driver (1976) is directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader. It tells the story of Travis Bickle, a Vietnam War veteran living in New York City. He works nights as a taxi driver, thinking about how the world, and New York in particular, has deteriorated into a cesspool.
When he develops a crush on Betsy, a worker on the presidential nomination campaign of Senator Charles Palantine, her rejection unbalances him and leads to acts of shocking violence. Stars Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, Albert Brooks, Peter Boyle. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Music, Best Male Actor, and won Scorsese the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
In the film, we see banners for Palantine’s campaign, and Travis Bickle makes quite an impression wearing a campaign button on his fatigue jacket after shaving his hair into a Mohawk.
Palantine is not to be confused with a Palantir, which is the magical scrying device from ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ He is also not to be confused with Senator Palpatine from the ‘Star Wars’ series, although Palpatine is supposedly named after the Taxi Driver character. Go figure.
Wear this button while going out for a drive, while cutting your own hair, while discussing toes, or while trying to get organinized. This button is not quite as large as the one seen in the film.
