Description

Up, up, and away!  This cool little chalkware rocket is UP for sale!  This desk display is from the early days of the White Sands, New Mexico Proving Grounds where scientists and aerospace engineers worked on rocketry projects in the late 40's and early 50's.  The 7 1/2 inch tall plaster rocket is a replica of the German V-2 rocket, which was used in WWII with London as its primary target.  At the end of WWII, many of these rockets and the scientists and engineers who developed them, were shipped to the U.S. in the interest of National Security, all part of a Top Secret military operation called Operation Paperclip.  To this day, much information on Operation Paperclip remains classified.  Of the hundreds of scientists brought to America to develop the potential of rockets in this program, Wernher von Braun is the most well known.  In spite of his past membership in the Nazi party and the SS, he eventually became Chief Architect of the launch vehicle which propelled Americans to the moon, bringing him worldwide fame and acclaim.  The historic appeal of this item is enhanced by the authentic signatures of the German rocket scientists which decorate it. In addition to Wernher von Braun, there are seven other signatures which are identified in the letter of authenticity.  It is amazing that this fragile item has survived this long.  On some surfaces of the rocket and the base, the plaster has flaked away, and there are several nicks on the fins, as well as fading on some of the signatures.  Please enlarge all photographs for close examination of the signatures, and the condition.  Nevertheless, although time has taken its toll, we believe this to be an exceptionally unique and highly desirable item.  Of course this is certainly a considered purchase, but one which will hopefully provide enjoyment, inspiration, and the potential to be prized for generations to come.  The letter of authenticity by Steve Zarelli Space Authentication will accompany the rocket.  Again, please enlarge photo of the letter for signatures and other details.  It will be shipped by USPS in a medium flat rate box, priority mail, insured, and will require a signature upon arrival.
