Trash talk? Friendly banter?
Whatever it was, Scottie Scheffler and fellow Dallas resident Tom Kim had a viral moment during Thursday’s opening matches of the Presidents Cup.
Scheffler and Kim, who are good friends and play together often in Dallas, got the competitive fires going on the par-3 seventh hole.
Kim holed a putt from roughly 30 feet, showboated a bit, and screamed, “Let’s go!”

But Kim spoke too soon, as Scheffler had not attempted his putt yet. Scheffler matched the putt from a similar distance, turned to Kim and screamed, “What was that!?”
Things carried over to the next hole when Kim and his teammate Sungjae Im continued the antics. Kim drained another birdie putt, the two emphatically celebrated and walked to the next tee box without watching Scheffler putt.
If you aren’t familiar with golf etiquette, that’s extremely standard courtesy, especially at the professional level.
“It’s the same thing I would have done at home if he had made a putt … and he celebrated like that. So it’s all in good fun. We enjoy competing against each other,” Scheffler said. “That’s what it’s like out here. It’s fun to compete and fun to represent our country, and at the end of the match you take your hat off and shake hands.
“We’re friends after, we’re not friends during, I guess.”
The Americans swept all five matches.
