DUBAI, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — The first-ever Dubai Forum was held on Wednesday in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ties between China and the UAE.
In his opening remarks, Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Zhang Yiming emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between China and the UAE, describing the two countries as comprehensive strategic partners, close friends, and brothers who firmly support each other.
The Chinese ambassador noted that China is the UAE’s largest trading partner, while the UAE is China’s top non-oil trade partner in the Arab region. The two countries’ shared values, similar development goals, and strong people-to-people ties have solidified the bilateral relationship.
Noting this year marks the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the UAE and China, Abdullah Al Saleh, undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Economy, highlighted the significant achievements in bilateral cooperation across various fields over the past four decades.
The UAE official expressed optimism about further strengthening collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, culture, education, and innovation to ensure a prosperous future for both nations.
In her interview with Xinhua, Consul-General of China in Dubai Ou Boqian pointed out the longstanding commitment of both sides to building an open and inclusive network of friends, embracing innovative and sustainable development.
She hoped the forum would serve as a bridge for mutual dialogue and growth, helping to expand cooperation in emerging sectors and achieve shared development.
The forum featured discussions on topics covering China-UAE economic development and cooperation prospects, renewable energy, youth engagement, and new media.
Wu Hailong, president of the China Public Diplomacy Association, hailed the China-UAE relations with a solid foundation built in 40 years as a model for China-Arab cooperation and win-win cooperation between countries in the new era.
President and CEO of the Dubai Chambers Mohammad Lootah reiterated that the UAE is China’s largest export market and investment destination in the Arab world, and the Dubai Chambers remains committed to advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.
Co-organized by the Chinese Consulate General in Dubai, the China Public Diplomacy Association, the Dubai Government Media Office, and the Dubai Chambers, the forum was themed “Forty Years Together, Seeking New Development,” and attended by over 1,500 guests. ■
